Tribeca Film Festival Agnes is a creepy thriller that also touches on many deep and heavy topics, such as grief and trauma.
Agnes is a dark thriller that does more than just scare its audience. This topic is rarely discussed in this type of film, so it’s something the audience can really enjoy. The film is so intense that it almost needs to be seen a second time, or even a third time, so that the audience can see everything in it and fully understand it. That’s not to say it’s confusing, but it’s worth watching a few times.
2021 Movie Agnes Review
In the movie “Agnes,” young Sister Agnes is believed to be possessed by the devil because she screams and is weird and is filled with anger at her sisters. Assigned to the case, Father Donoghue travels to the monastery with an unsworn young priest, Benjamin, to see what he can do for the young woman.
As the story progresses, everyone’s faith is tested as never before. What’s really remarkable about this movie is that it feels like… Two completely different movies in a way. Without giving away the plot, the plot takes a dramatic turn in the middle of the story as it continues to tell the life of one of the main characters, Mary.
The audience will learn about her friendship with Agnes, why she goes to the monastery, and more about her life. The dark cinematography and soundtrack, and the way Agnes is not afraid to talk about religion, are both positive and negative.
There’s a lot under the surface here, especially in the second half of the movie, that shouldn’t be overlooked. Admittedly, this is a thriller, a creepy, possessed nun. But there’s more to the movie than that.
Agnes talks about trauma and grief and how people deal with it in different ways. It’s also about deception, and there’s a lot to unravel here that should be enjoyed again and again so that the audience can fully understand it.
About Agnes
In a convent, young Sister Agnes erupts in anger and blasphemy, leading the church to send a senior priest, Father Donahue, and a young priest, Father Benjamin, to investigate the incident. Church leaders had ulterior motives in handing the case to Father Donahue, who had recently fallen out of power. At the convent, the young priest praises the reserved sister Mary, Agnes’s closest friend, who has been cursed with evil. As the two clergy advanced, all participants underwent their own faith tests.
